The school year begins this week, and we are all excited about a new year. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of Townsend Harris High School at Queens College. The Townsend Harris Alumni Association is once again recruiting alumni to be ambassadors in neighborhoods around the city and to reach out to their own middle/junior high schools to make sure that students across New York City know about Townsend Harris.
Why do we need alumni to visit schools? With over 450 middle schools in the city, it is not possible for Townsend Harris faculty to go to every middle school in the city. So... who better to help deliver the message of all that Townsend Harris has to offer than its own alumni?
How will you know what to tell students about the school? All ambassadors will be provided with updated information prior to visiting schools.
The Ambassadors Volunteer meeting will take place on Thursday, September 24 at 7 PM in the Principal's Conference room at the high school building, located at 149-11 Melbourne Avenue in Flushing. This will be an important meeting for all who are interested in working on student outreach. The meeting has been designed to give you all of the background and information you need to maximize the benefits of your "ambassador visits" to schools around the city.
In particular we would like to find alumni ambassadors to following schools in Queens:
- I.S. 77 (976 Seneca Avenue)
- I.S. 93 Ridgewood
- P.S. 43 (160 Beach 49th Street)
