Seymour Sherman Steinberg, Class of 1938
A retired Army intelligence officer and attorney, Seymour Sherman Steinberg died at age 91 of congestive heart failure, in Rockville, MD on Sunday, December 2, 2012.
He was a member of Washington Hebrew Congregation. During World War II, LTC Steinberg served in General Eisenhower headquarters, Order of Battle section. Present at the German surrender in Reims, he also lived in Flensburg, Germany aboard the PATRIA with John Kenneth Galbraith and Drew Middleton of the New York Times. He had custody of General Jodl before Jodl's Nuremberg trial. LTC Steinberg graduated from Townsend Harris, City College of New York, and received a J.D. from Columbia University Law School.
He is survived by his cherished companion, Enid Portnoy; his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Eve and Nate Wallace; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Andrea Steinberg; and grandchildren, Richard, Sarah (Joe), Gordon and Wyatt. Memorial service will take place at Arlington Cemetery at a future date. Contributions may be made to Montgomery Hospice. He will be greatly missed.
