Dr. Elwyn Nicholas Kernstock, Major, United States Army Retired, passed away on Dec. 9, 2012, in Pensacola, Fla., of natural causes. Dr. Kernstock, Professor Emeritus of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, was 94. He was a graduate of Townsend Harris High School in New York, was a professional jazz musician in New York City and the Catskills, and served for 22 years as an Artillery Officer in the Army. Subsequently, he taught high school Civics in Connecticut and Political Science at Saint Michael’s. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy; children, Stephan, Nicholas, Christopher and Wendy; and five grandsons. A memorial service and interment will be held in Pelham, N.Y., in the spring.
