Irving Stone, 90, died peacefully at home on December 16, 2013. He was predeceased by his wife Clara and son Daniel. He is survived by his son Philip (Katie Green) of Princeton, MA and daughter Louise (Jos Ruks) of Portland, ME.
Born in New York, he graduated from Townsend Harris High School, served in the United Staes Navy in the Pacific during WWll. He received his PhD from Columbia University and taught Economics at Baruch College (CUNY) until retiring at age 79. He was a voracious reader and music lover, from jazz to classical. He will be sadly missed by many lifelong friends, extended family and loving caregivers. A memorial service was held Thursday, December 19 at 11am at Plaza Jewish Community Chapel, 630 Amsterdam Avenue (91st Street). Donations may be made in his memory to The Fortune Society or the Riverside Park Fund.
