Dr. Leon A. Weiss entered into rest on September 13, 2013 at the age of 88.
A long-time resident of Longmeadow, MA, he was the beloved husband of 61 years to Janet (Aronson) Weiss. Dr. Weiss was the dear son of the late Morris and Rose Weiss. He was the devoted father of Richard Weiss and his wife Meryl of New York City and Marjorie Weiss Patkin and her husband Randall of Swampscott, the loving brother of Naomi Bowman of Van Nuys, CA, and the cherished grandfather of Brooke and Alexander Patkin and Matthew and Loren Weiss.
A native of New York City, Dr. Weiss was a graduate of Townsend Harris High School. He attended the City College of New York and graduated from New York University College of Dentistry with a DDS in 1946. He completed graduate fellowships in both Periodontics and Endodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. After serving in the army as a dentist, Dr. Weiss practiced dentistry in Springfield, MA for 50 years, retiring in 2000. He was also an Adjunct Dental Professor at both Tufts and Harvard Dental Schools. He was on the staff of Wesson Hospital, a member of the Valley District Dental Society, and a long-standing congregant of Temple Beth El in Springfield, MA. His funeral was held on Monday, September 16 in Springfield, MA. A memorial service was also held at Congregation Shirat Hayam in Swampscott, on Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
