Ralph Lusskin, Class of 1942

Ralph Lusskin, 87, died peacefully in his home after a long illness on January 17, 2015. A brilliant physician who graduated from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons at age 21, he served as an orthopedic surgeon on the USS Relief during the Korean War and retired from the US Naval Reserves as Lieutenant Commander. Born and raised in New York City, he was the elder son of two orthopedic surgeons, Lillian S. Lusskin, M.D. and Harold Lusskin, M.D. Devoted to and respected by his patients, he also trained generations of physicians at NYU School of Medicine where he was Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Phyllis (nee Brown), and his daughters Shari I. Lusskin, M.D. (Robbie Wagner) and Elizabeth Lusskin, Esq. (Marc Solomon), grandchildren Lauren, Sadie, Eric and Isaac, and brother Bret Lusskin, M.D.
